Reading – In Class 2, children will regularly receive reading books to read at home and at school. In year 1, these reading books will be linked to the phonics graphemes that are currently being taught in class. In year 2, reading books will be based on the reading level that each child is currently reading at.
Reading books should come to school every day in red reading folders, along with yellow reading records.  This is so that books can be read at school. Books will also be changed at intervals throughout the week, when your child is ready. Reading books must be in school in order for them to be changed.
Children should read at home daily and yellow reading journals should be updated daily at home to show what has been read. Comments added can include the book and pages read, how well your child managed the book and any words or graphemes that they struggled with.
We encourage all children to have a love of reading. Please also encourage your child to enjoy other books of their own choice as well.
Spellings – Children will receive weekly spellings tests. Spellings will be sent home every Friday and will be tested on the following Friday. The spellings will be linked to learning in phonics and spellings sessions at school.
Times Tables –  In Class 2, we LOVE times tables! When children learn their times tables, they receive certificates in our celebration assemblies on Fridays. Practise as much as possible at home! Times tables feed into all areas of the maths curriculum.
