Our school is at the hub of our local community. Our pupils support the life of our community as well as regularly welcoming visitors into school such as the local clergy and our MP. We are lucky to have many volunteers who come into school to read with our children.

We teach our children how to be good citizens, not just locally but globally:

  • Our pupil councillors take their responsibility seriously, ensuring that our pupils’ voices are heard and making suggestions to constantly improve our school.
  • We have an Eco Committee, dedicated to ensuring we do all we can to preserve the beautiful world we live in
  • A group of children litter pick each week in the local vicinity.
  • We have links with the primary school in our twin town of Socx.  Our pupils correspond with their pupils termly.
  • Our Year 6s visit France each year where they visit the Somme and take part in the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate, laying a wreath on behalf of our school community.
  • Year 5 stay overnight in London where they visit the Houses of Parliament and learn about democracy.
  • Raising money for charity is very important to us:
    • We hold an annual fundraising event for Children in Need
    • We collect food for the Morecambe Bay food bank at our harvest assembly each year
    • Our Charity Club raises money for other charitable causes.  In 2021/22 the children raised £650 for Help for Heroes and St John’s Hospice through events such as craft stalls, film nights, competitions and cake sales.
    • We raise money for other causes e.g. Key Stage 2 raised over £800 for WaterAid as part of their learning about water.
